10 Very Handy WordPress Plugins

One of the best features surrounding WordPress blogs is the availability of Plugins for use. There seems to be at least one Plugin for just about every online function that you could think of. They are simple to install, manage, and maintain, and if used properly can make your blog standout amongst the millions of others out there. Most Plugins are free, however there are premium ones that offer a wider range of features that would not normally be available in a free or similar versions.

Optimizes your Wordpress blog for Search Engines (Search Engine Optimization). This plugin will allow you to easily generate page titles, meta tags, and page descriptions for your blog. It also helps to avoid duplicate content found on other blogs, and it works right out-of-the-box.
This plugin will create a Google sitemaps compliant XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. It supports all of the WordPress generated pages as well as custom ones. Everytime you edit or create a post, your sitemap is updated and all major search engines that support the sitemap protocol, like ASK.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO, are notified about the update.
Though this one is oncluded with a WordPress install, it is still one of the best free Plugins to utilize. Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not and lets you review the spam it catches under your blog’s “Comments” admin screen. Want to show off how much spam Akismet has caught for you? Just put <?php akismet_counter(); ?> in your template.

All existing feeds simply become Feedburner feeds seamlessly and transparently for all users. Just tell the plugin what your Feedburner feed URL is and you’re done.
This plugin can be used to obtain lists of email addresses of users wanting specific information. The front side of the ‘WP Opt-in’ plugin is a simple form with an e-mail input field and a submit button. By entering an e-mail address into the field and pressing submit, an e-mail is sent automatically to the specified address. The contents and sender of the automatic e-mail can be specified in options, along with whatever you would like for status messages and other text for the front side. IP address and time for submit is stored together with the e-mail address in the database. E-mail entries in the database can be selectively deleted. Export to a Bcc friendly format is also possible.
